Hello world – anybody out there?
This is my new website and the same time an approach to start a new own business.
I have been working as an employee for over 12 years, did one year or so of contracting but then I thought it is time to start my own ‘thing’.
In my career I came across too many companies not making use of any social media or not to mention a personalisation strategy. Both in different ways, approaches and realisations enable websites to engage with their visitors in a deeper and more meaningful way. On the other hand I saw lots of interest and appreciation for the tools and strategies I created.
The main reason to implement social media or personalisation was not the awareness but a general lack of knowledge or confidentiality concerns (social media). In the case of personalisation the key component in the decision to personalize comes down to cost for many websites – the perceptions of value are remarkably strong and growing. Needless to say the smaller the company the bigger are the constraints in terms of cost and allocation of knowledge. Moreover both personalisation as well as social media not used properly can result in contrary counterproductive aftermath.
Personally I like very much Avinash Kaushik’s quote about social media: “Social media is like teen sex. Everyone wants to do it. No one actually knows how. When finally done, there is surprise its not better”. Wham, bam, thank you ma’am! I think this covers the risks involved when not implemented carefully and farsighted pretty well.
A feasible and popular way to go for SMBs is to outsource social media and personalisation functions to gain from the obvious benefits and keep cost within a limit. So here comes my idea into play, as consultant I understand myself as matchmaker between the needs of SMBs and the tools and approaches available. For more information and service offerings see the corresponding pages on my website.
Wish me luck and hope to see you soon!
Richard
